TengWang Pavillion

The Tengwang Pavilion in Nanchang is one of the three famous towers south of the Yangtze River. The tower stands on the bank of the Ganjiang River. In 659, the Governor of Hongzhou, Li Yuanying (brother of Li Shimin, Emperor of the Tang dynasty) built a tower for his villa on the bank of the Ganjiang River. People called it Tengwang pavilion when he was made the Prince of Teng. In the later years the tower became a gathering place for scholars to recite poems and sing. The famous poet of the Tang Dynasty, Wang Bo, wrote a famous essay here, "Notes on Tengwang Pavilion", which made the pavilion even more well-known. The tower has been destroyed 28 times, and in 1983 it was rebuilt. It is 45 meters high with an area of 5,600 square meters. From the exterior the tower appears that it has three stories, but inside it actually has five.


This is the bell tower - we didn't go any closer so I didn't get a close up of the bell but you can see it in the structure on the right.
See the stairs behind the lion? They are steep! We climbed up to the base of the Pavillion. We couldn't go any further - it was just too hot!

There was a man selling food for the Koi here. There were so many! They were practically out of the water when there was food. We also saw a few turtles in the mix.





This is the design on the underside of the roof of the Pavillion. It looks like it may have been painted.


This is the sign that tells about the Pavillion. Notice the big bush in front of it? I had to lift the camera over my head as far as I could to take this picture and I couldn't get all of it. When you read it the person who made the sign broke words up at strange places. For example the "b" in built was at the end of one line and the "uilt" was on the next line.
And your day would not be complete without Sarah pictures! She was in a good mood throughout the day after a really rough start this morning. She woke up at about 2:30 and just started sobbing and crying mama - but it isn't me yet. Brent got up and walked with her for a bit because even when she fell asleep she would wake up when we put her down. Poor Daddy was uncomfortable for hours while she slept. He let me sleep some thinking he could squeeze a nap in later. (See a few pictures down)

This is how she fell asleep - resting on Daddy's hand. Mommy was finally able to take her from Daddy and get her to sleep on her but it took about a half an hour to manage to shift her to the bed without waking her up. She then slept for another hour and a half. I hope tonight is better.
This picture was taken outside a shop right before we went into the Pavillion. It looks like she is petting the statue but I doubt she has ever seen a cat or dog or other animal that she could pet. I think she was just reaching out to touch it. We had her in the Snugli for a little while but we got stopped by the "grandma's" and they pointed out that her legs were too tight and she needed pants. When she if facing out the legs are a bit tight so we did take her out of the Snugli but there is no way we are going to be dressing her in more clothes - it is so hot and humid here!
